The Oneonta Family YMCA, a non-profit
charitable organization, is a fellowship of persons of all ages,
creeds and classes united in the common effort to develop the
body, mind and spirit of our families, our communities, and
ourselves through activities guided by and based up on Christian
principles.
For more than 130 years
the Oneonta Family YMCA has provided safe and caring
environments, positive role models, creative activities and
opportunities to serve the needs of others. These are
essential building blocks for strong kids, strong families and
strong communities.
Everyone belongs at
the Oneonta Family YMCA. At the YMCA, we're more than
just a place to work out. We're a place where you can be
yourself. Whether you're just starting on the road to
health and wellness or a veteran, you'll feel comfortable
at the YMCA.

It’s that time of year; you know when we
put even more on our already full plates! Our busy lives become
even busier and it is even more difficult to get our workouts
in. Do not fall victim to the mind trap that when you do
get to squeeze in a workout which you should go “all out.”
Instead, when you squeeze in a workout you should use it to
connect your body and brain, and to take some time to check in
and listen to your body. Your body will tell you when it
feels weak or run down, when it feels strong and that it usually
feels better after moderate exercise sessions.
Moderate
intensity exercise calms the body and the brain and fills it
with energy. Moderate exercise also allows you to break a good
sweat helping to release toxins and filling you up with
endorphins. Moderate intensity exercise is a great way to
take care of yourself so that you can joyfully give to others!
Not sure where to start? We offer many wonderful fitness
classes here at the Oneonta Family YMCA and we also offer you
the opportunity to “try” a class one time. To try a class
one time all you need to do is purchase a “Flex Pass” at the
front desk, and then you can see if the class “works” for you.
We offer several yoga and yoga based classes, great for
calming the mind and strengthening your total body. We offer
functional classes which improves cardiovascular
endurance, muscle strength, muscle endurance and flexibility.
If you need a cardio buzz we offer two “Free For Members” step
classes and finally we offer Spinning classes a wonderful,
non-impact cardiovascular and strength workout.
When thinking about giving gifts this holiday season,
don’t forget yourself! Give yourself the gift of health through
exercise – a stronger heart, more energy and peace of mind. It
will be the best investment you will ever make!
Happy
Holidays!
