Testimonials

Of the many wonderful aspects to living in Oneonta, one I suspect often goes overlooked is our area's quality nursing homes.  My mother lived at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Chestnut street for more than six years.  During that time, my family and I never worried about her care or companionship.  She always received topnotch treatment from the doctors, nurses, therapists, and aides.  But just as remarkable was the consideration and respect she and other residents received from every ONRC employee.  Housekeeping, maintenance, dietary, medical records, and administrative staff knew everyone's name and frequently shared time with residents.  In my experience, it was commonplace for staff from other departments to help out with the many delightful functions organized by the busy recreation and activities department.  The camaraderie was infectious and therapeutic.   My mom was not confined to a nursing home.  She lived in a community with great caregivers and true friends.  Although quality nursing home care was not a factor my wife and I considered when deciding to move to Oneonta 25 years ago, the ability to have my mom nearby, and so well cared for, was an unexpected privilege for which my family and I will always be thankful.

Did you know that you had a treasure at 330 Chestnut St. called the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center?
Our 82 year-old father was a recent patient, admitted for rehabilitation after knee replacement surgery.  At such a facility, it is commonly necessary to leave your modesty and pride at the door before entering.  However, at this facility, circumstances that would normally leave you embarrassed and humiliated, were met with compassion and humor and were treated as every day, uneventful occurrences.  The extensive and painful rehabilitation was treated with kindness, gentleness and respect.
From the family's point of view, all or our questions were answered with patience and clarity - we felt as though our involvement was helpful and welcomed.  From admission to discharge, we were fully informed, guided and assisted in every phase and transition.
To the residents of Oneonta, we hope you know how lucky you are and to our "family" at Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center-Beth, Kim, Karen, John, Toni, Ruth, Julie and the many others who were involved with our father's daily care and rehabilitation-we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

"We are very fortunate to have this institution in our community.  If anyone ever has to place a loved one in the Oneonta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, please do not hesitate.  The kindness, thoughtfulness and care are superb"

"During my mothers stay, I have met some wonderful people and made some great friendships.  She was in a family environment where caregivers worked closely with her and the family to give her the attention she needed.  I, my sisters, and brother appreciate the rare understanding and compassion.  We are grateful and thank God everyday for you and this wonderful institution."

"No words can fully express our thanks for the loving care you've given to our mom as she journeyed through these last couple of years."
